This book documents the Battle of Lindley's Mill located in North Carolina, during the Revolutionary War. THIS IS THE ONLY GOVERNOR IN THE USA EVER TAKEN PRISONER DURING THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR. This historical battle, a 4 hour fight (very long for Rev. War) occurred to free N.C. Gov. Burke who was captured along with 200 residents of Hillsborough, by nasty Tory David Fanning. David Fanning was directed to capture the Governor by the British (Maj James Craig). This was NOT coincidental, as most history books describe Fanning's effort. This book provides information NEVER published before, with original letters found in the Library of Congress, and the British Archives. Included is a historical overview of the Lindley Mill property, and a general discussion about the family. Revolutionary War pension records assist in detailing the events, including the subsequent attempts to free the Governor at Brown Marsh. Lastly, there is a detailed discussion about David Fanning, which dispels a lot of folklore.
